Story
I drive by the radio tower everyday on my way to work. The radio tower is located just above the Star Ranch on the border between Riverside and Orange County near the 91 freeway. The temperature was 80 degrees when I started at 11:30. However, by the time I was done, the temperature soared into the mid-90s. The trail was fairly steep at the beginning, but I just continued at a slow place. Towards the end, before I reached the radio tower, it terrain because very step and I had to walk (hike really). It was magical to finally reach the radio tower (towers really). I got some great pictures of the surrounding area with my iPhone (which I sent to my subscribers on Twitter, Facebook and other services). I continued down to Moab rock (located in Coal Canyon Ecological Park) and then back under the freeway to return to my car. The total distance was 11 miles. My speed was an appalling 4 hours.

Tips: Warning: Start early and bring water. A quart is not enough on a hot day. Parking is along the freeway near the Green River Golf Course (exit Green River from the 91 freeway). Then, once you leave the car run west along the freeway until you reach the entrance to the Santa Ana River Trail. Run approx. 3/4 of a mile along the River Trail and then hang a left under the freeway (this is the abandoned Coal Canyon off ramp). Continue South for another 200 yards until you reach a trail that goes off to the left – there is a sign which says Pipeline trail.
